Why you need a writer: About Us page

At the outset, telling the world about your business or non-profit is easy. “We do X better because Y.” Yet so many of you torture yourselves so much over your essence and your brand that what happens is nothing at all or a tangled paragraph of thoughts that ultimately mean nothing. Your potential customer or client scratches their head.

What now?

It’s like coming out of a nap that went on for six hours instead of 15 minutes.

CNN.com isn’t even immune:

CNN.com is among the world’s leaders in online news and information delivery. Staffed 24 hours, seven days a week by a dedicated staff in CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, and in bureaus worldwide, CNN.com relies heavily on CNN’s global team of almost 4,000 news professionals. CNN.com features the latest multimedia technologies, from live video streaming to audio packages to searchable archives of news features and background information. The site is updated continuously throughout the day.

That’s cool. So what? A news organization should be able to tell you “So what?”

I get that your brand might be high-falutin’ or so futuristic your entire staff are AI. There’s nothing, though, that can replace straight-forward explanation of your services, products, and, yes, your brand.

Take this…

The most hotly-anticipated new eatery in downtown Las Vegas, eat is the culinary brainchild of professional chef, Natalie Young. With 20+ years experience under her toque, Chef Natalie is delighted to bring the skills she honed pleasing the palates of top chefs, critics and other discerning foodies home to her friends and neighbors.

Located at the corner of Carson and 7th Streets, eat is perfectly poised to serve downtown’s business and residential communities, as well as adventurous suburbanites, tourists and any and all hungry people. What will “Downtown’s New Comfort-Cuisine Queen” be cookin’ up? Check the menu.

She hits all the marks. Who’s behind this, who they serve, and the food and vibe you can expect.

[Full disclosure: I love eating there!]

So if it’s so easy, why hire a writer? Because you’re not the most objective person in the room. This is your baby and only the BEST words will do. A writer can help you choose the best words in the best order that won’t confuse your potential customer. They’ll even move on from ABOUT to BUY or, at the very least, BOOKMARK.
